Hi Matt, I don't have any current plans as I'm committed to a Drupal 6-based project through to next April, and as the habit usually works, I'm getting another project off the ground using the currently beta Drupal 7 for comparison. Perhaps when the pressure is off I will then look to trial something in Joomla, but this will be some way down the line. I'm also interested in Concrete5, and it would be churlish not to keep up to scratch with Wordpress developments now they are into v3.

Hi everyone,

My name's Ian, been a graphic and web designer with some run-of-the-mill programming skills for the last 10 years or more.  Slowly becoming more technical as more and more of my work has become web oriented.

Love the idea and philosophy behind the Joomla! project and have had a couple of goes at installation and mucking about with basic/free templates available online, but that is as far as my experience goes. Pretty much the same can be said of my experience of WordPress.

I've got a few projects on the horizon I'd love to try and put on the Joomla! framework so hoping that with some online resources, and maybe a few cheeky questions here I can get a little guidance on how best to begin a bespoke project ;)

Hi Will,

Welcome to Joomla! and Joomla! Suffolk

Are you thinking about using Joomla! at all in any projects that you have coming up?

Matt

Hello!

Fledgling designer/developer based in Ipswich.

I have a confession to make, and best to get it out of the way. I haven't used Joomla yet. In fact, I'm currently using Drupal (BOO! HISS!) and have dabbled previously with Wordpress.

However, with user groups few and far between in these parts, I thought it best to reach out with impunity, and bridge the treacherous CMS divide.

True be told, I am doing a lot of bespoke PHP for this current project, and looking to chew the fat generally about PHP coding, and at the same time gain and share some insight about the relative strengths and weaknesses of CMS platforms.

Please tell me to push off if this is un-called for derailment, or if you can point me in the direction of more generalised developer usergroups or meets in Suffolk.

Lovely, thanks.

Will.

If I've lost 100+ categorys following a 404 and host trying to use correct backup where would they be in the system.

I've not gone to a row of items and pressed delete; so your observations please

Somewhat difficult to troubleshoot with so little information, but I'm guessing you've got a link to a component which you've deleted, you've got a problem with SEF, or you've deleted some files from your installation. Ruth

Who is your sponsored walk for and can I interest you in earning some £££££££££££££££££. Have made a couple of errors on site. I don't think it was a good idea to insert all groups /details into category's; is there a way I could make them all into articles for the Frontpage. I do appreciate you work / have a life so you could ring when able to on 01722-328847 so I can sort something out with you. BW, Tony L

Ruth or anyone, Is there a way to avoid having to make cat blogs for 220 items; each item being a place that needs to have their own cat. 1 section with 220 cats & each having its own article / articles that will change over a period.

Hello Ruth,

Can you tell me if I'm looking at having to create a cat blog for each group [ 206 ] plus some new ones this week!

Or is there an easier way around this? Knowing my luck there probably isn't?

Hi,

Please make sure that you are within a menu before clicking new.

Menu>Main Menu then click on "New".  This creates a new menu item within an existing menu.  Once here, you choose which type of menu item you want.  In your case, you would choose Article>Standard article layout if you you just want to show one single article.  You then click on "Select article" on the right hand side to find the article you wish to display.

I think perhaps you're clicking on "Menus" or "Menu Manager" and creating a new menu?

The reason that you have to choose uncategorised in both, is because ALL articles in 1.5.x MUST be contained within a section and category, and hence if you want something to be uncategorised then the section = uncategorised and the category = uncategorised.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Ruth

On www.joomla.org/files/visualGuide15.pdf it shows article-Standard Article Layout after clicking on New - Menu mng [ 3rd one down ]

BUT when clicking on my site for same development I click on New - Menu and 3rd one down is my site name in full! clicking on Article the drop down list says Article Submission Layout, is this the same as Standard Article Layout?

Secondly, why do I have to put uncategorised on both section & category as this doesn't seem right to me.

Hiya, By the sounds of it you've changed something which has caused it to not be able to access the database. Usually this means you've changed the username, password, or location of the database (or the database service has crashed). I can take a look at it tomorrow for you, drop me an email with access rights to CPanel, and SuperAdmin rights to the site. Ruth

Hiya, I'm having some trouble getting to that URL, could you check that it's the right one? If you have an idea of what you need to do with it I may be able to help next week some time. Ruth x
