Subject :Web or file link showing in Category or Section list (articles also to be showing)

I need to show links to documents in a Category and Section lists (just like how articles are displayed so it will have a title, date created, author etc..).

In Category list view, at the moment we are having to create a new article and paste the link to the website or file in there so we can get it to show in the Category list with any articles in that section or category.

This works but the users dont like it as it takes time to create the article/link and also requires 2 clicks instead of one which apparently is "just not good enough"???

Any idea how I can get around the problem?

I've already tried that - it didnt really seem to make any difference to anything I pasted whether I used that button or just the usual paste.

Thanks for the suggestion.

JCE has a paste from word button (2nd line, 1st button) however I don't know if this keeps pictures (as the picture would need to be uploaded somewhere on the server?

Hi Chris,

I seem to recall that Matt had something up his sleeve for this - I'll ask him if he can take a look as I'm a bit snowed under at the moment with the impending house move!

Hello! Is it possible to receive a email to replies to your post?

I would also like one to tell me when someone has submitted a new post too.

Try updating your Java too - I have seen this do funny things on Firefox like the writing comes out backwards etc...

Hello,

Does anyone know of a application for joomla that will allow me to paste from MS Word keeping all the formatting, pictures, tables etc... exactly how they are in MS Word?

I find it can be anything from 1 week to 3 months - depending on the site, how busy they are, who knows!  I guess it goes in a queue and it depends on how large that queue is (and how many moderators there are) as to how quickly it gets approved.

I expect you either have not set up the FTP layer properly, or your permissions on your folders prohibit the file being moved.

What version of Joomla! are you using, and is it running on a Linux or Windows server?

You can check your permissions through the admin control panel, where it will give you a list of the directories and their state (green = good, red = bad!).

Will be online this evening if you need a hand.

Hi Trevor,

Did you sort it?

If not, what have you tried and are you running the latest version of Joomla and can FTP files to the directory?

Never had a problem - but I do now.

Checked Joomla forums but none make sense to me - does anyone have any ideas?

On Install I get:

  • JFTP::store: Bad response
  • Warning! Failed to move file.

After doing a routine check on Google for links to my website I noticed a DMOZ link has appeared.

Its probably taken about 2 months to get on DMOZ as the date it was last updated was 25th August.

As discussed at the (very comprehensive) user group meeting, the default editor plugin tinyMCE was not displaying all the tools. Changed it from 'advanced' to 'extended' and the rest of the tools appeared.

We may need an alternative editor such as JCE so we can have granularity between what end users are offered and what the system administrators are offered.

Hi!

Welcome to the User Group - it's great to have new people coming on board :)  How did you find out about us?

Our next two meetings are over your side of the county if you're interested - November in Aldeburgh and December in Lowestoft itself - it would be great to see you there!

Hi there,

I've been involved in web development in one form or another for the last 10+ years and more recently have been working as a PHP developer.

I'm currently the web director at Juiced Media Ltd. in Lowestoft.

Interestingly enough, we have just relaunched our website (today).  If anyone is interested, it is www.juiced-media.co.uk.  All feedback is appreciated.

I came across Joomla quite a few years ago now and at first opted to develop my own solutions.  Joomla has come a long way since then and we now use it at Juiced Media when the project and/or client warrants it.

Looking forward to hearing from you all about your Joomla experiences.

Hi Ruth, I think that was the best one so far for me.

The Q&A was really good too.

Thanks loads!

Thanks to those who came - always good to see new faces!  I hope you found the meeting beneficial - I have uploaded the presentation to the site so you should hopefully be able to follow it to get the hang of template (layout) overrides.

Hope the Q&A sessions answered a few questions and opened up a few more avenues for discussion!

I tried Agora and just didn't get on with it - but that was quite some time ago when it was in early release.

The other thing to ensure is that it integrates with your other systems like CB, PMS and so forth.

Ruth,

thanks for that - just what I wanted to know.

I am also looking at Agora which seems to have less recent negative comment about support than Kunena.

Cheers
