Computer: Dell XPS

O/S: Vista Home Pro

Browsers: IE8, Firefox 3.5.3

On this PC in some fields the browser seems to eat characters. [Strangely, it is not doing so in this particular field, although it did in the Subject field.]

I am pretty sure it is not the keyboard as local entry to emails, word processing etc. all seem to be fine.

However entry to some fields seems to have the characters intercepted and not always passed on.

I am tentatively assuming that this is some kind of 'read ahead' code which is looking at significant fields (user IDs, passwords, subjects etc.) perhaps to auto-fill them.

I dont think it is (hope it is not) a key logger because it is happening in two seperate browsers.

I have also run the Microsoft checker over the PC and it is reported clean.

So, as this is a forum for web people I thought I would ask if anyone had any ideas, or had perhaps already seen this elsewhere.

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Hungry web browser eh!  I have had this before but I can't remember how I fixed it to be honest!  Does it happen in IE and Firefox as well?

You don't have a kitten paw sitting on the backspace do you, or something stuck under the key?  Had that one before with a breadcrumb!

You could try disabling all your add-ons if you have any, and see if that helps.  Alternatively try a different browser and see if it still happens - if so it might well be something related to the computer rather than the browser.

Try updating your Java too - I have seen this do funny things on Firefox like the writing comes out backwards etc...
