I was introduced to Joomla! quite by chance when I offered to take over content management of a club website; I'd never heard of it before, and at first I wondered what I'd let myself in for! 

My previous (limited) experience of website design and management was with HTML scripting, MS Frontpage and uploading content with FTP, so this was new daparture for me.

However, I got to grips with the basics fairly quickly with the aid of the help topics on the Joomla! site, and now I feel pretty much at home with Joomla!

The next step is to upgrade the club's Joomla version from 1.0.12 to 1.5 (or 1.6 if I wait a while), if I can summon up the courage to do it!  The question is, is the upgrade worth the time and trouble if the website is working well at present?

I'm afraid I'm very unlikely to go to meetings, living to the west of Colchester as I do, but I hope JUGS will be interesting and useful.

Hello and welcome to the forum, would be great if you could get to some meetings - we do hold some in Ipswich, wihch isn't too far away :)

RE your sites, please make sure you update your sites to 1.5.15 before you even consider going to 1.5x or 1.6x - 1.5.13 is quite out of date, including a security revision if memory serves me correctly (meaning you're at risk of getting your site exploited).

Hope you're getting on well with your sites, did you manage to upgrade them OK?
